What will President Obama say tonight in the State of the Union Address? Is it time for a change in the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy? Is it time to freeze government spending? Surely it’s high time for a change in cannabis policy?
I don’t expect too much from the President’s State of the Union Address. Even after he announces that he wants Congress to repeal DADT, the commentators will tear him apart. It’s a step in the right direction: equal rights for all should be the government’s goal.
Obama will probably announce a “spending freeze” on the federal government – which I highly doubt will actually affect the falling economy. He needs to focus on job creation and real fiscal responsibility (hint: audit the Fed, and have honest, transparent policy-making processes).
But overall, I wouldn’t expect the president’s speech to be overly interesting. That’s why I strongly advocate taking part in the official State of the Union address drinking game (link on the left).
In the State of the Union drinking game, participants are required to drink whenever President Obama says any of the following:
- "The state of our union is strong."
- "Let me be clear…"
- "Make no mistake…"
- “…unemployment…”
There are a lot of other rules to the State of the Union drinking game, but my favorite is what you must do if Obama says “corporate greed” -- one shot of Goldschlager or Cristal, “preferably sipped from the navel of a stripper.”
The State of the Union address will be broadcast live on major news channels and websites at 9 p.m. EST (6 p.m. PST).
