Frozen Trailer Review: B
Pros: Frozen puts viewers in a familiar situation, a “what-would-you-do?” which builds intensity.
Cons: Doesn’t seem very believable. What, you can’t tuck and roll and ski down the mountain? Be smart, kids!
I just watched the Frozen movie trailer, and I only have one question: why’d she take her gloves off?
Frozen has a disturbingly simple premise. Set on a mountain with a second-rate ski resort, three snowboarders get stuck on a lift when the resort closes. Too high to jump, sub-zero temperatures, and a poor choice of clothing can be tantamount to suicide.
In the trailer for the movie Frozen, we’re introduced to three college-aged kids: Dan (Kevin Zegers), slacker Joe (Shawn Ashmore) and “hot girlfriend” Parker (Emma Bell). They’re at the local mountain for some skiing and snowboarding, and nothing’s going to stop them.
(Does anyone else think it’s funny how the guy who played Iceman is in danger of dying from frostbite and hypothermia?)
Anyway, the trio pays off a lift operator and start riding the slopes. Oh, snap! Someone forgot about them! Now they’re stuck halfway up the mountain, and it’s getting cold! From online research, I predict that the guy who jumps breaks his leg and is eaten by starving wolves.
The Frozen movie wiki page says that the “typical day on the slopes” turns deadly after the three are punished by the elements for trying to fit in “just one more run down the mountain.
Here’s my Frozen movie trailer review, second by second.
0:11 – “It works all the time.” What, the lift operators sell passes now?
0:25 – “With 30 million skier and snowboarders…” This seemed high (that’s one-tenth of the population) so I looked it up. It’s actually more like 5.5 million.
0:31 – Bad sound editing.
1:01 – Wouldn’t the lift operator know? Hm. Maybe he’s punishing them.
1:13 – Yeah, no one works during the week, grooming the slopes.
1:21 – First wolf shot!
1:29 – So eventually they all make it to the ground. I guess they ALL break their legs.
1:38 – Poorly done green-screen POV shot.
1:42 – EW. Gross. Gross. This is why early Frozen reviews were squicky.
So, get out to the theater this week if you want a survival horror film. And please, keep your gloves on if you’re going to the slopes.
